What do I charge for catering a dinner party ? Starting a business -have no idea what the going rate is.?
I do work for church and need to start charging them for tax purposes.They pay for groceries,but not for my services.I am a chef starting my own business,and don’t know anything about prices. HELP!
You have not done your homework, Love! Before going into a business venture, you HAVE to check out your competition.
Get out your local phone book, those flier papers from your mail box, and write down EVERY cater…then set yourself a schedule to meet these businesses. Put together a sample menu & average party size that you will use regularly, and ask for estimates from EVERY one. Bring a note pad & take notes about what you liked & didn’t much care for from each business you encounter–incl. staff., cleanliness, offerings, menu paper, hand-outs–always get a business card!
Now, with homework done, you can target what market would your clientelle will come from and you will best see where you fit into your local industry…Go for it!!!
By the way, have you talked to your church about charging them? They may forego your services for someone who will volunteer…usually churches use their congregational talents, they rarely hire them.
